The award was presented by Derek Hodgkinson who has recently retired from Airbus, as a testament to Derek’s hard work in the field of Health & Safety the award is named in his honour, as he set up the 'Safe Systems of Work Procedures', which is currently used at Airbus. Zircom has a team of resident engineers working on site at Airbus Broughton working on the design and installation of structured network cabling and cable containment.

Health & Safety at such a large site is imperative; all personnel undergo a formal site safety induction before being allowed to undertake any work. A specific induction and ‘tool box talks’ relating to individual projects is given to all those working on a project prior to work commencing. Just to be on site, Zircom has to possess a number of certificates and accreditation including; IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) Certification, PASMA (Prefabricated Access Supplier & Manufacturers Association) Certification and CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Cards & Manual Handling Training.

As well as the company, all personnel who carry out work on site must hold CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) registration cards. The CSCS cards are issued by the CITB (Construction Industries Training Board) and holders must undergo a test in a controlled environment to show that they can demonstrate an acceptable level of Health & Safety knowledge and awareness required for working in construction environments.

In June, as part of their continued commitment to Health & Safety, Zircom achieved CHAS registration, the Contractor Health and Safety scheme, which demanded rigorous independent assessment of Zircom’s ability and proof of compliance with Health & Safety legislation. “Our commitment to Health & Safety is paramount to our success and is a massive part of our business plan and activities, we are delighted to have received this award and look forward to continuing our work with the Airbus team at Broughton”, Peter Knight, Director Zircom.
